Green Assets provides informed, turn-key project development services, allowing for profitable conservation activities that help to maintain natural habitats and ecosystems.
Position Description - The GIS Technician focuses on the areas of forest carbon project development, implementation, and verification of forest carbon projects.
This position will provide dedicated support to the monitoring, tracking, and management of forestry activities and forest management activity monitoring, tracking.
This is an entry level position with long-term opportunities in leadership roles.
Essential Duties Develop and maintain spatial data and databases for forest carbon project development, monitoring, and verification.
Conduct the spatial assessment, monitoring, and tracking of forest management activities.
Provides effective Geographic Information System (GIS), Spatial Analyses, and Global Positioning System (GPS) support to team members.
Performs remote sensing/aerial photography interpretation to assess forest management activities and other land use information.
Produce accurate maps and other representations of data for public use and field work activities.
Geo-referencing and digitization of scanned maps.
Support automation and process enhancement.
Preferred Skills/Abilities Proficiency with the ESRI product line, including ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, AGOL, and related desktop extensions.
Demonstrated knowledge and competency with using computer coding languages (e.
g.
, Python, R) to process data intensive datasets.
Experience with writing and updating documentation for methodologies and workflows.
Demonstrated knowledge and competency with spatial analysis of raster data and aerial imagery.
Experience in forestry and remote sensing/aerial photography interpretation.
Strong cartography skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Experience with Lim Geomatics Prism and other digital timber cruising solutions will be a plus.
Education and Experience Bachelor of Science degree in GIS related field is required (preferably forestry, environmental, geography, natural resources, or geology) 0-2 years of GIS experience Physical Requirements Prolonged periods working at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
