This position is responsible for providing support to existing research projects and initiating new projects/opportunities with the goal of studying neuroinflammation in neurological diseases.

What you'll do:
Perform, oversee and assist with independent laboratory experiments carried out in the Principal Investigator's laboratory that are essential for achieving goals of the research projects.
Provide laboratory oversight including overseeing and training students and staff, ensuring safety compliance, keeping laboratory records and ordering supplies and equipment.
Make reagents and solutions for experiments and assist in maintaining laboratory glassware and sterilization procedures.
Maintain a well-organized notebook documenting experimental protocols and data.
Consult at regular intervals with the PI for guidance in experimental design and progress reports.
Communicate with others in the lab and department regarding ongoing experiments, shared resources, maintenance and safety issues Manage mouse colony for lab.
Work closely with graduate students and other lab personnel.
Oversee lab organization while working with graduate students, other personnel and supervisor.
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field, OR an equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.
A minimum of one (1) year of experience working in a research laboratory.
Knowledge of and/or the ability to perform the following:
DNA & RNA isolation from various tissues DNA cloning Maintenance of tissues culture cells Animal handling and husbandry qPCR Immunoblotting Flow cytometry Ability to modify and optimize research protocols as needed for the successful completion of the scientific experiment.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Skilled at using scientific rules and methods to solve problems.
Skilled at using related laboratory equipment.
Strong time management and workload skills.
Knowledge of cell and molecular biology protocols.
Knowledge of laboratory environment and appropriate procedures.
Knowledge of the use and preparation of culture media and ability to prepare general laboratory reagents etc.
Knowledge of laboratory and medical terminology.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to maintain aseptic tissue culture conditions Ability to maintain records and inventories.
Ability to operate general laboratory equipment i.
e.
pH meter, scales, pipetmen, centrifuges, fraction collectors etc.
Willingness and ability to learn new techniques or protocols and apply these in an appropriate manner.
Good organizational and self-motivational skills.
Ability to gather, understand and implement technical protocols from current literature.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
